JONATHAN IS THE MOST CORRUPT NIGERIA’s LEADER, HE SQUANDERS OIL MONEY & AIDING CORRUPTION SAYS HILLARY CLINTON.

Mrs. Hillary Clinton, the former US Secretary of State in separate events in New York City said the Nigerian government under President Goodluck Jonathan, squandered its oil resources, and indirectly helps corruption to fester in the troubled country.

Legislators on Capitol Hill have also called for the United States to do more to help the Nigerian government.

Clinton also blasted wider decisions made by the Nigerian government during the public interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts.

“Nigeria has made bad choices, not hard choices” Clinton said, parroting the name of her forthcoming memoir.

“They have squandered their oil wealth, they have allowed corruption to fester and now they are losing control of parts of their territory because they wouldn’t make hard choices.”

In late April, heavily armed Islamic militants stormed a girl’s dormitory at the Government Girls Secondary School in the Nigerian town of Chibok. Upwards of 270 students were kidnapped and days later, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video statement that he planned to sell them into slavery. More than 50 got away and the remaining are the subject of the search.

The kidnappings quickly gained international attention by using the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls. The hashtag has been used to update people on the state of the search, but also to criticize the Nigerian government for their handling of the kidnapping.

Five Fundamental Characteristics of Successful Startups

 by biztalkgo

What are the basic characteristics of successful startups? Why do some startups grow into successful businesses while others fizzle out before hitting those first goals? Every entrepreneur wonders at some point or another at the beginning of their business venture if their startup has what it takes to “make” it.

Of course, no one can absolutely guarantee that your startup will succeed (or fail, for that matter). Unforeseeable circumstances, from natural disasters to flaws in the economy, sometimes doom a startup to failure, even if everything else in place.
However, in spite of events that entrepreneurs cannot control, there are some fundamental characteristics that are common to successful startups. Make sure your startup includes the elements discussed below, work hard, and believe in your business more than anyone else and you may just find your company listed in Inc.com’s next publication of successful start-up companies.

Five Fundamental Characteristics of Successful Startups
An Innovative Product

An article from PrintPlace.com points out that 90% of new products fail, mostly due to a lack of innovation. Many have the misconception, too, that innovation means inventing a new product completely from scratch.

However, innovation can come from simply finding a problem and creating a solution using parts that are readily available. If you are seeking venture capitalists to help you get your startup off the ground, big and bold ideas are the ones that capture their attention. Innovation often requires risk, but one that you and other founders are willing to take because the idea itself is able to go big at some point in the future.

Customer Knowledge

Know your customers and what they want. Don’t try to sell them something they don’t need or want. If your startup began by selling vintage decor to customers and are trying to find a way to expand, do not try selling your customers modern decor…that is, unless your customers would go wild over it. Rather than trying to grow your product by going outside of the desires of your current target customers, however, grow your startup to fit within the expectations of your current customers. This gives you a focused vision and better enables you to create a strong experience for your customers.

Flexibility

Some startups grow from small to a multi-million dollar company without making anything more than some necessary adjustments in order to scale the product. Others are only successful after they completely change their business idea or innovation. And then others fall somewhere in the middle.

No matter the level of changes your startup may need to make, being flexible is a must for success. Your base customers may have loved your original idea, but the majority of consumers don’t bite: change is needed in order to gain new customers. Or maybe you realize that your original product is not scalable: make the necessary adjustments so that your startup can grow.

Flexibility means the willingness to know that some of your hard work will seem pointless because of a sudden change in direction, but that ability to make the change when needed is what will keep your startup going.

Strategy and Execution

Fred P. Burke, a highly successful entrepreneur who grew a Guardian Pharmacy to over $250 million in revenue, believes that it takes the right mixture of strategy and execution to make a startup work. An active plan for the future, one that encompasses growth and important goals, is vital to a company surviving its beginning. However, knowing how to carry out that strategy is also key to longevity. This is where being able to motivate and effectively communicate to your team comes into play.

A Killer Team

A startup doesn’t just need a team who has the knowledge base to get stuff done. It needs people who actively get involved in making sure the startup is a success. People who are hard-workers, who take initiative, and who take on your vision and make it their own are people who will help you carry the many burdens that come with starting a new company or launching a new product.

But you also have to be able to choose the right team during every stage of the process. What may have been right for your startup in the beginning may not be right for it now as you start seeing some growth. For instance, now it may be time to hire a new manager who has experience with larger scale operations.

In conclusion, i want you to understand the fact that not all startups follow the same patterns on their road to success, but the majority of them do seem to have some common characteristics. Most successful companies were a result of hard work and determination, not an overnight fluke or flight. Keep researching, trying, trying, and trying again, and your startup will be much more likely to become your ticket to rewarding self-employment.

20 Important Relationship Rules That Are Often Ignored

By RACHEL HARRISON

1. Be Honest.

Be nice, but be honest. Trust is vital. Trust is gained through honesty.

2. Compromise.

There’s a complexity to compromising.  With gender roles ever evolving it’s important to recognize it’s not about who wears the pants.  It’s about balance.  Compromise is an inherent part of a relationship.  You will have to sacrifice in a relationship.  That’s the nature of relationships.  If you want your way all of the time, stay solo.  It’s about finding a healthy balance in compromise.  Both people in a relationship must understand that necessity of compromise and sacrifice in a relationship to make it work.

3. It’s healthy to argue.

It’s healthy to bicker.  It’s not healthy to have screaming matches.  Some couples brag about “never fighting.” That’s nothing to brag about.  It probably means that one of you is holding something in.

4. It’s not your job to fix the person you love.

You can’t fix them.  You can only help them fix themselves.  You can’t resolve their work issues or wipe away all of their insecurities or get their parents back together.  All you can do is be there for them and help them through it.  Getting frustrated about your inability to fix your partner will agitate their struggles and strain your relationship.

5. Understand your significant other’s background.

It is important to recognize the person you’re with has not always been that person.  They’ve gone through things to make them that person.  Appreciate and understand their past.  Put them in context.  Maybe he doesn’t express his feelings because his family is not particularly expressive, or maybe she is so insecure because her ex was very critical.  Be conscious of this.

6. Do not underestimate the power of thoughtfulness.

Listen.  Pay attention.  There is nothing more meaningful or memorable than mentioning something in passing and then having your partner bring it back up later.

7. Do not limit expressions of love to grand gestures.

It’s impossible to keep up.  Fancy dinners or luxury vacations are wonderful, but love does not have a dollar value.  If given the option between a weekly sunset walk or an annual vacation, the majority would pick the weekly walk.  Money does not show love.  Gestures show love.  A free gesture also holds value.

8. Take all advice with a grain of salt.

Rule #13 stands, nobody knows your relationship.  Advice/tips can help, but only you and your partner know what’s right for you and your partner.  Don’t take any outside material as an absolute truth.

9. Research.

If you have a relationship question or need advice, the internet/books can be helpful tools.  There is nothing wrong with getting some perspective and advice from outside sources.

10. Value each other’s interests.

If you have different interests, which is perfectly fine, make sure you value what their interests are.  Even if vintage airplanes or nail art don’t interest you, do your best to pay attention and have respect for what your partner likes.

11. If you are not getting something you need, ask for it.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.  Your partner is not a mind reader.

12. Do NOT get your sex tips from Cosmo.

13. Nobody understands your relationship.

And you don’t understand anyone else’s.  There are no exceptions to this rule.

14. Follow the Harry Burns Airport Rule.

Do not stop doing things you used to do in the beginning of the relationship.  If you used to take your guy/girl to the airport, still take them.  You should never stop trying to show your significant other that you care.  Nothing is worse than hearing “How come you never ____________ anymore?”

15. Spite will get you nowhere.

If the other person hurts you in a relationship, hurting them back on purpose will likely destroy your relationship.  If you feel the need to “get back at” the person you’re with, you shouldn’t be with them.

16. Split the bills.

Relationships should be even or close to even.  It is not a romantic idea, but it is fair.  Communicate about what you each feel comfortable with.  No one person should put more effort into a relationship than the other, so no one person should put more money into a relationship.  It will allow resentment and discomfort to build.

17. Accept that no one is perfect.

It’s about finding the right person, not the perfect person.  The perfect person doesn’t exist.  Everyone has flaws.  Everyone makes mistakes.  Prince Charming probably had one beer too many on occasion.  Cinderella probably spent too much on shoes.

18. Don’t be afraid to have the tough conversations.

If the relationship is strong and going somewhere, you should bring up the tough stuff.  If you’re falling in love but have some concerns, bring them up sooner rather than later.  It’s difficult to have serious conversations but it’s better to discover deal breakers earlier on.

19. Trust your instincts.

If you feel in your gut something is wrong, bring it up.  9 times out of 10 your instincts are correct and ignoring them will get you nowhere.

20. Be wary when discussing relationship troubles with your friends.

To a certain extent, it is healthy to discuss your relationship with your friends, but be cautious.  If you discuss every little worry, every argument, if you air every grievance, you will poison your friends against your significant other.  Find a healthy way/source to vent to that won’t backfire.

9 Ways To Be Happy In Job You Don’t Like

Accepting your 9-5 is just a job works fine until you finally start listening to your passion and purpose. Once you begin to acknowledge your purpose and feed your passion, your “day job” may begin to feel like a burden.

Ways To Be Happy In Job You Hate

So, how do you make it through the 40+ hours a week without feeling like you are serving time for a crime you didn’t commit? Here are nine tips on how to be happy at a job you hate:

1. Stay out of drama. Keep away from contentious people.

2. Initiate a new project. Tie it to a new skill you want to learn or practice.

3. Choose a better perspective. Look for opportunities and wins instead of shortcomings and faults.

4. Find a buddy. Research shows people that have friends at work have a higher rate of career satisfaction.

5. Learn something new. Read a book, read an article, take an on-line course. Find a way to get new information and let it inspire you.

6. Practice gratitude. Be grateful for what you do have and what you have the potential to create.

7. Stop talking about how bad things are. Lift the weight of your environment by speaking positively about your work, your co-workers, and your company.

8. Keep working towards your passion. Whether it is five hours or five minutes, find a way to incorporate what you are passionate about into your routine.

9. Get a life. If you are pouring all of yourself into work that’s not satisfying, create a better balance by adding more “extra-curricular” activities.

Bottom line: You don’t have to be miserable even if you are in a miserable job. Taking responsibility for creating your own happiness at work puts you back in the driver’s seat of your career where you belong.

Be Your Own CHO: Chief Happiness Officer

Are you fully engaged in what you do every day? In other words, are you happy in your job?

This is more important than may be immediately obvious. Dr. Sonja Lyobomirsky, Professor of Psychology at the University of California at Riverside has researched the consequences of happiness and discovered that it has multiple byproducts which benefit individuals, families, communities, and society at large. These include:

  • Higher income
  • Greater productivity & work quality
  • More satisfying & longer marriages, more friends & richer social interactions
  • More activity, energy & flow
  • Improved physical health
  • Longer life

Dr. Lyobmirsky has found that happier people are more creative, helpful, charitable, and self-confident. They also have better self-control, self-regulation, and coping skills.

When it comes to your worklife, these are critical questions to ask yourself, says Career Happiness Coach Erica Loren. “It is important to be clear whether your work environment is or is not supporting your career goals or passions. You need to be proactive in understanding what you need for career advancement.”

Loren notes that your happiness “set point” is based on three factors: [1] DNA (50%); [2] your life circumstances (10%); and [3] you (40%). She cites research from the Institute of Leadership & Management that the most important on-the-job motivators for most people are:

  • Enjoying the job (59%)
  • Getting paid well (49%)
  • Getting along with colleagues (42%)
  • Being treated fairly by managers (22%)
  • Having control over their work (22%)
  • Receiving bonuses (13%)

There are a number of ways to clarify your on-the-job motivators and pursue career happiness. The most important thing according to Loren is take your own career happiness seriously and recognize that it is your responsibility. Workplace disengagement is a huge issue facing companies today, says Loren, “This is a cancer that is ignored even though it negatively impacts people and their workplaces. This toxicity needs to be addressed because it’s a viral process that left untreated, eats away at attitudes, productivity, efficiency, and creativity at work.”

As your own Chief Happiness Officer, you can forge a healthy framework that helps you to identify those issues you can control. Loren finds that such a framework typically consists of action steps such as:

  • Discovering the ‘big why’ in your life – why do you do what you do?
  • Finding out what kind of leader you are
  • Taking control of your worklife so you can make powerful, proactive choices
  • Forecasting your future – what gaps do you perceive in your education or skills?
  • Developing short- and long-term goals complete with “Plan A” and “Plan B” plans
  • Creating a phase-out plan, if needed, to enable you to transition in a new career direction

There are a number of tools that can help you turn your career happiness around, from character strength and value assessments to leadership assessments that measure your attitudes, perceptions, perspective, and reactions under stress.

“Having a coach is also a great way to explore what you’re not happy with when it comes to your career,” notes Loren, who also employs journal coaching to encourage weekly web-based reflection on key career topics.

It’s important to recognize that finding career happiness is a process. “Many people want to feel better right away. This is not a quick fix. However, those who fully engage from the start do see amazing results in all aspects of their lives, not just their jobs.”

Those professionals who are wise enough to pursue career happiness report that they feel a deep inner confidence they never had before. They say they earn more money as a result, have better quality of health, and feel free of heavy burdens such as shame, guilt, anxiety, fear, and stress. “My clients tell me that other people comment on how good they look and behave. They say their families actually like to be around them more than ever. Some even report that their career happiness has worn off on others who are then inspired to engage in the same pursuit.”

If you find that you’re playing small in your career, experience intermittent or ongoing distress in your work, or know you need to move in another career direction but don’t how, get help. Don’t settle for less career satisfaction than you deserve. Though this is often a taboo topic, it is vital to resolve whatever career issues you’re facing so you can avoid dragging this same baggage from job to job.
